PRAVEEN: Hehehehehe! The only thing i can do is just laugh at these bunch of losers. Samy Vellu and MIC members had a wake up call that hindraf will come to the streets.They were too busy cheating the indians. When hindraf hit the roads for justice, Samy Vellu said "the time will come they will learn a lesson." Now the "lesson" he meant was ISA but people had to teach a lesson in return and thats the lesson of Makkal Sakthi @ People's power. Still we see in the news Samy Vellu is trying his level best to bring back MIC and his crocodile technology. What is crocodile technology? insincere weeping or a hypocritical display of emotions. The expression comes from an ancient anecdote that crocodiles weep in order to lure their prey, or that they cry for the victims they are eating. KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu on Sunday asked the government to release the five Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leaders under detention, saying two of them should be freed sooner because one was ill and the other was now an elected representative. He said R. Kenghadaran, 40, "is very sick" and M. Manoharan, 46, had won a seat in the March 8 general election. Manoharan had won the Kota Alam Shah state seat in Selangor on a DAP ticket.

Samy Vellu also said that V. Ganabatirau, 34, and K. Vasantha Kumar, 34, had not been very much involved in the massive rally organised by the unregistered Hindraf in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 25 last year, which was a reason for the five to be detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

The fifth Hindraf leader under detention is P. Uthayakumar. The MIC president spoke at a news conference after opening a workshop on "Rebranding the MIC" attended by the party's 150 divisional leaders, here.

"I will raise it (the issue of their release) with the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) after he returns from Sabah," he said. ---BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian minister responsible for internal security on Friday rejected opposition calls for the release of an ethnic Indian state legislator detained under a contentious tough security law."We must react to the country's internal security and public order," newly appointed home affairs and internal security minister Syed Hamid Albar was quoted saying by the state Bernama news agency.Malaysia's opposition last week pressed for five ethnic Indian activists, including a man who won a seat in recent elections, to be freed from the Internal Security Act or ISA, which allows for indefinite detention without trial.Lawyer Manoharan, standing for the Democratic Action Party (DAP), was elected from his detention centre -- soundly beating the government incumbent in a central Selangor state seat in the March 8 general elections.

Syed Hamid said Manoharan will be forced to sit out of the newly formed state assembly when it convenes."You definitely can't be at two places at the same time," he said.The five are leaders of rights group Hindraf who were detained last December for organising a mass rally claiming discrimination against ethnic Indians.

HINDRAF: 100th Day Rally in San Francisco (USA)

We, a group of concerned Malaysian Indians residing in California, held a rally, at the United Nations Plaza, on March 22, 2008 to mark and protest the 100th day detention of our 5 brothers, Uthayakumar, Manoharan, Kengadharan, Ganabathirau and Vasanthakumar. The rally was a complete success with about 40 people attending. The participants comprised of people from all walks of life, and included Mr. Samir Kalra, from the Hindu American Foundation, who all came together to show solidarity with our Malaysian Indian brothers and sisters. Ms. Sunita Sohrabji from the India-West newspaper was also at hand to cover our rally.

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants of this rally for their kind attendance and enthusiastic support. I also would like to personally thank the Hindu American Foundation and India-West for their strong support of the Malaysian Indian cause. Lastly, I again call upon the Malaysian government to fulfill our five demands immediately.

Internet addictions: A real medical menace?

Alcohol, drugs, food, sex, and even shopping are all candidates for medical treatment and are recognized as genuine mental disorders, so what about the Internet? Internet addiction -defined as "excessive gaming, sexual pre-occupations, and email/text messaging" - is becoming so common that at least one psychiatrist says it merits inclusion in psychiatry's official handbook of mental illness, the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders."

Dr. Jerald Block of the Oregon Health and Science University is the latest voice pushing for this inclusion, noting that tech junkies display genuinely debilitating behavior, including drug-like cravings, withdrawal, and a constant need for more and better gear - just like a substance addict might exhibit.

But other doctors comment that Internet addiction, while it may be real, is too new of a condition and needs further study before being medically classified. There might be something to this: No one wants people being medicated or institutionalized if they aren't genuinely ill.
The "Manual of Mental Disorders" won't be published again until 2012, but an early draft will arrive for public comment in 2009. Meanwhile, mind docs say the problem is growing, now possibly affecting up to 10 percent of Internet users. Recent studies are surprising, indicating the problem is worst not among game-obsessed teens, but rather among middle-aged women who stay at home, constantly on the computer as a way of connecting to the outside world.Is computer use (or computer downtime) causing a problem in your life? If so, you might be an addict. But you'll have to wait a few more years to find out for sure.

Raikkonen storms to victory in Malaysia

World champion Kimi Raikkonen takes a dominant win in Sepang, finishing 19.5 seconds ahead of BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica. Heikki Kovalainen is third for McLaren.Toyota's Jarno Trulli is fourth ahead of Lewis McLaren in the second McLaren. The remaining points go to BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld, Red Bull's Mark Webber and Renault's Fernando Alonso. Kimi Raikkonen made a good start and challenged Felipe Massa down the inside of turn one, but the Brazilian wasn't having any of it and outbraked his Ferrari team mate to retain the lead. Meanwhile the two McLarens had a good start after their five-place penalties for blocking in qualifying, climbing to fifth and seventh. Massa led Raikkonen, Kubica, Webber, Hamilton, Trulli, Kovalainen, Coulthard, Heidfeld and Alonso.

Kimi Raikkonen cruised to his first win of the season, to close to within three points of championship leader Lewis Hamilton. Robert Kubica continued BMW's impressive start to the season taking second place ahead of Heikki Kovalainen taking his first podium for McLaren. Jarno Trulli fended off a late challenge from Lewis Hamilton to take fourth place for Toyota, while Hamilton's fifth place kept him the lead in the drivers' championship. Nick Heidfeld finished sixth ahead of Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso taking the final point for Renault.

SIME DARBY REBUILTS DEMOLISHED TEMPLES.

Demolished temples rebuilt, culprits disciplined. Plantation giant Sime Darby has revealed that it had investigated and disciplined individuals who were responsible for demolishing two small Hindu temples and a shrine in Bradwall Estate in Rantau, Negeri Sembilan.The temples and shrine were demolished on March 5 at Lin Sum estate, a division of Bradwall estate, causing anger among hundreds of Hindu workers in the estate.News of the demolitions also prompted many to accuse the temple management of tearing down the structures without having any respect for Hindus in the estate.

Sime Darby issued a statement yesterday to clarify the matter, stating that it took immediate steps to assure estate workers that the demolished structures would be replaced and the culprits brought to action.Sime Darby however did not disclose who demolished the shrine and the two temples. It also did not reveal what action was taken against them.The plantation giant said that its executive vice president Azhar Abdul Hamid and other senior managers visited the estate on the night of the demolition and assured estate workers that all demolished structures would be rebuilt immediately.

It added that two days later, work on the small shrine next to the workers’ quarters was completed. Sime Darby also said that it worked with the estate’s temple committee and estate workers to rebuild the other two temples according to the specifications of the committee, stating that all foundation and structural works for both the temples were completed.Politically-motivatedIt added that it was now up to the temple committee to pick an auspicious day to perform the necessary religious rites before workers can worship there. “We tried to minimise disruption to the people’s religious practices by rebuilding the temples as quickly as possible.“This was an unsanctioned incident and we want to assure the workers at Bradwall Estate that we are committed to correcting what happened.

That is why reconstruction of the shrine and temples were completed so quickly,” said Azhar.In the aftermath of the demolition, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan claimed that the demolition was politically-motivated, undertaken by certain quarters who tried to incite hatred towards Barisan Nasional candidates.Mohamad, who was contesting to retain the Rantau state seat then, said he was told by those responsible that they wanted to see how well BN would handle the matter. "They also said they wanted to see how many votes (Umno Youth vice-head) Khairy Jamaluddin, the BN candidate for the Rembau parliamentary seat, would get on Saturday (as a result of the incident)," he had said. Both Mohamad and Khairy won their seats in the election.

March 18 (Bloomberg) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi ousted Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz and thinned his cabinet in an attempt to woo back voters after the ruling coalition's worst ever election showing.

Muhyiddin Yassin, former agriculture minister, replaces Rafidah, a cabinet member since 1977, Abdullah, 68, said today at his office in Putrajaya, outside Kuala Lumpur. He retained Najib Razak as deputy premier and defense minister.

Abdullah, facing demands to step down from party members including former Premier Mahathir Mohamad, is bringing in fresh blood to rebuild his National Front coalition and win back investor confidence. While the reshuffle may muffle some critics, Abdullah reiterated today he has his party's support and pledged to continue development projects started in his first term.

KUALA LUMPUR 19 Mac -- Bekas Menteri Hal Ehwal Dalam Negeri, Datuk Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad meletakkan semua jawatannya dalam parti berkuat kuasa hari ini.

Menurut Radzi, beliau berbuat demikian kerana tidak mampu lagi bekerja dan perletakan jawatan itu direstui oleh Pengerusi Barisan Nasional (BN), Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Radzi ialah Setiausaha Agung UMNO dan BN.

Jelasnya, beliau bagaimanapun akan tetap berkhidmat sebagai Ahli Parlimen Kangar kerana rakyat masih memerlukan perkhidmatannya. -- Utusan.
