Cops to probe Anwar's report against their boss

Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan said the police will definitely investigate a report lodged by PKR

"I don't want to make any comment on the matter. Let the probe be carried out on the allegation made by Anwar Ibrahim," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

On Tuesday, Anwar lodged a report at the Selangor police headquarters against Musa and Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail.

He alleged that the duo had purportedly hidden facts and falsified information regarding Anwar’s case a decade ago.

Asked whether he would lodge a police report on the allegation against him by Anwar, Musa replied: "What for? Let the police investigate."

AG dodges questions

Musa also declined to comment when asked on the allegation by the family of Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, the complainant who lodged the police report alleging that he was sodomised by Anwar, that they were instructed not to contact him (Musa) concerning the report.

Last Thursday, Mohd Saiful lodged a report at the Jalan Travers Police Station, here claiming that he was sodomised by Anwar at a condominium in Bukit Damansara.

Anwar has since denied the allegation and claimed that it was a political conspiracy against him similar to what happened in 1998 when he was unceremoniously sacked as deputy premier.

In a related development, Abdul Gani refused to comment on the police report lodged by Anwar which mentioned his name.

Despite being bombarded with questions on the matter, the attorney-general merely replied: "You should know the answer."

Among others, he was asked whether he was willing to be investigated over the allegation and whether there was any potential conflict of interest.

Abdul Gani was met by reporters after meeting Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on maritime agencies in Parliament this afternoon.

ACA to investigate allegations

Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) has stepped in to investigate the allegations.

This is apparently due to conflict of interests with the police investigating the alleged involvement of their own boss in the matter.

"We will investigate the matter without fear or favour and the investigation has already started," ACA director-general Ahmad Said Hamdan said.

He confirmed that the agency has received a copy of Anwar's report.

However, it is not clear whether the ACA will be required to send its findings to the AG's Chambers as its boss is also implicated in Anwar's report.
